Clarissa Johal: A Shift in Perspective.

A Shift in Perspective.

It's been awhile and time for a post here. I've decided to make posts a bit more casual. The reason why I've found blogging such a challenge, is that I've looked upon each post as something to be researched, edited, and re-edited. To death.
No more, I just don't have the time.
I've been working on finishing my next novel while tying up Between, which is due to come out on December 14th. I've just received my cover art and it's finally hit me, "Oh my god, I have a novel coming out!"  I have no idea why this hadn't occurred to me before: the writing, the editing...the re-editing with a professional editor. Hmm, that should have been my first clue. As I go into line edits here pretty soon, the "not so fun" part of writing will be at the top of my check list.
The promoting. Yep, that bad boy.
I know few writers who like promoting. Gone are the days where we could sit in our writerly cave, write what the voices in our heads tell us to, and have somebody else publish and promote our drivel. With the onset of self-publishing, small presses, ebooks and the like, it's a dog-eat-dog world out there. Short of stripping down naked and running through the nearest mall waving my book over my head, I have no idea how to garner the attention I need to make Between a hit. I've been told to blog my fingers off, set up local interviews, join reader/writer groups, and discuss that I have a book coming out with anybody who will listen. And a plethora of other things I can't even imagine doing. You know, generally be a pain in the butt.
My favorite.
Not.
Anyways, onto the next leg of my journey. If you see me making a fool of myself blogging, interviewing, or bothering some stranger on the street who has merely asked for directions, forgive me, for I am new at this.

Between
Coming December 14th from Musa Publishing.
Mark it on your calenders.

Genre: adult paranormal fiction.

Tagline:  How far would you go to redeem yourself?

Blurb:
As a young girl, Lucinda was able to see spirits, a gift that didn't come without its problems. Now, a dedicated young veterinarian, she is committed to the idea that every life can be saved.
After a devastating accident, Lucinda tries to escape her past by moving to a small town. There, she meets a newcomer and feels an immediate connection with him. But there is another mysterious stranger to the small town, one that stirs within her a mixture of unease and desire.
As Lucinda is drawn into a bitter tug-a-war from the forces around her, she is likewise pulled into a dangerous twist of past and present events. Forced to make difficult choices, she finds that the two men are locked in not only a battle for her life...but a battle for their salvation.

Lip service for Between will be appreciated. I will send anyone that chooses to give me lip service a puppy. Your puppy is in the mail.

(Please no hate comments about sending puppies via postal mail. That was a joke. I realize that puppies don't fit into envelopes. They pee way too much and it would just get messy.)

I just knew if would be a great cover (Kelly does have a good track record, and you have a great eye). I'm really looking forward to Between. Yeah, promo's a pain, but there's fun in it, too, and many wonderful people to meet and share with. Wishing you much success!

Love your cover for Between. A door and a key are always intriguing.

Rhea--the ONLY thing I like about promo is the chance to meet new people! lol Beth, it looks like I need to send you some tea with the puppy, then. So sorry. Rita, thanks! Thank you for stopping by, ladies!

I REALLY love the cover art. And I know what you mean about blogging. I don't do research and that sort of stuff. I just write about something I'm passionate about and it all comes out of my heart.

Thank you, Patricia! I agree, blogging is going to be much easier. I love doing a bit of research to go with my posts--I'm passionate about the subject matter and like to share. I'll just be scaling back a bit! :)

Still waiting for my freaking puppy! Perhaps its still in customs. BTW - I LOVE your cover, it's got that Hitchcock thing going for it! Knock, knock, knock, Clarissa? Wink. Wishing you only the best for your release, Clarissa - go rock the bestselling charts, you deserve it!

Absolutely lovely cover! I write YA, but you are welcome on my blog anytime if you need some kind of promo. The authors at my press as well as my friends are ravenous readers. :)

Congratulations! We share a release day! ;)

Sharon--thanks for that! I love Hitchcock. And the puppy...did I mention it has the power of invisibility? Yeah, that. Thanks, Theresa! I'll take you up on that come December 14th! Your blog is lovely, just joined one...went to the other, and joined you on Twitter and Goodreads. :) Meandered...lol

Luuurve that cover. Behind the door lies????

Re the networking, marketing blah. Hate it, just hate it. FWIW, just go with the flow. Select what suits you best and find your target audience and relax.

That invisible puppy...already got a dog and a cat. Got any giraffe babies? Always had a yen for a giraffe.

Of course, Vonnie! Giraffe babies...right here in my pocket. I'll send one right over. I like your philosophy too

I happen to like my writerly cave! Please, please, please DO NOT tell my daughter you are sending out puppies. There has been way too much begging for a puppy happening in my house. But if you have puppies, I will be happy to send her to you for an extended visit! ;)

Looking forward to reading this, Clarissa. And the cover looks fantastic.

Sara, haha!! My kiddos would be the same--good thing these are invisible puppies. Eleni, thanks! Thanks for stopping by too :)

OMG, you're hysterical, Clarissa!! Love your sense of humor. I want you to blog on my sites. Don't know how many people will comment, but I get a good 300 viewers a day. They'll love you!

CONGRATULATIONS on your new release and finishing the second book. You're a pro and good things will happen for you.

Also, the cover for Between is AWESOME!

Clarissa Johal, Author said...

300 viewers?! Omg, no pressure there, lol. But I'll take you up on that. Just say when and I'll blah, blah about something. Thanks for the well-wishes too, Sloane! :)

Great post and great cover. If you promise not to send me a puppy, I'll tweet and FB for you. My husband will kill me if another animal comes home - 2 horses, 2 does, 4 cats and 3 hermit crabs appear to be his limit. :)

Clarissa Johal, Author said...

Well...okay, Nancy :) I'll be happy to play with your horses--always wanted one. Thanks for stopping by

Love the cover!!! I wouldn't recommend running around in the mall naked with your book, but who knows - at least people would pay attention. Haha!

Clarissa Johal, Author said...

Dusty...well, that WOULD be a last resort, lol! Thanks for stopping by!

Hi, Clarissa. Congratulations on the new book. make sure you take a moment to smell those proverbial roses before you jump into promotion. That promo stuff quickly saps the fun out of everything.
Thanks for the puppy offer, but my cat would not be amused.
Also, speaking for men everywhere, running naked through the mall with your book over your head is NOT the way to get the book noticed. Just sayin'.
Have a great week.

Jimmy, thank you! I'll probably spend more time writing than promoting, truth be told. We'll see if I can find that magic balance on that. Tell your cat no worries, I wouldn't dream of ruffling his/her fur. And, yeah...maybe a couple of well-placed pages before I go running, lol ;) Thanks for stopping by.
