UPDATE

Thank you to everyone who bought one of my books this month!
All royalties were used to sponsor Winni

UPDATE to my UPDATE 😜 - Winni has been adopted!

Winni has been at Safe Haven for Cats for 100 days — I have a soft spot for black kitties and especially ones who are "looked over" because they take a while to trust people.
Winni will be an excellent companion once she finds her special someone.
Could it be you?

Whispers in the Wood via Smashwords

It all began with an acorn.

There are some places you shouldn’t disturb, and where history lingers. When Rowan travels to England, she discovers a remote village, hidden in the shadow of an ancient forest. Vague warnings from the local people aren’t enough to stop her from venturing into the trees, or from picking up a single acorn. It seemed a simple action. But when a stranger emerges from the forest claiming the acorn belongs to him, Rowan finds herself pulled into something both centuries-old and deadly.

Poppy via Smashwords

A red-headed, pink-loving mortician who speaks to the dead.
A moody, unsociable funeral director.
Poppy and Dante from Struck are back.

Something is lingering around Skyview Funeral Home, and it's stealing the souls of the dead. With Dante in tow, Poppy is determined to put a stop to it. Can she protect those who are trying to cross over, or will her soul be next?

Exploring a remote island can sometimes get you into trouble.
Especially when you stumble upon a cave and awaken two demons.

Rumours and superstition.
That’s what Emma thinks about local gossip concerning her family's “cursed” private island. After the death of her grandmother, Emma journeys to the island to ready it for sale. While out exploring, she unearths a hidden cave that holds answers to the island’s dark past.
There may be more to the rumours than she thought.

Struck via Smashwords

Struck by lightning, claimed by shadows.

Caught in a terrible storm, Gwynneth is struck by lightning. She wakes in the hospital with a vague memory of a mysterious stranger. Following her release, the stranger visits her at will and offers Gwynneth a gift. One that will stay the hands of death. She is uncertain whether Julian is a saviour or something sinister, for as he shares more of this gift, his price becomes deadly.

February is the Month of Love - Charity Event @oldfriendssds #seniordog #nonprofit #adoptdontshop

This past year, I've had to accept the fact that my dog is getting older. We look after my daughter's puppy while she's at work, which makes Zeus's age even more apparent. Though he loves his doggy friend, he struggles some days to keep up with the puppy's energy. *sigh* It seems like only yesterday he was the one tearing around the house like a mad thing. I remember we'd hike for miles, run 5K's together—Zeus would be happy to pace me whatever the plan was. But now, our walks are short (though no less enjoyed!), and running is out of the question. In spite of this, I can't imagine my life without my dog.

I wanted to do something special to celebrate senior dogs. During the month of February, I will donate all royalties from the sale of my books to Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary. You can read about their non-profit organization HERE. If you're looking to adopt, please consider a senior dog—they have so much love to give and are usually the last to get adopted. They deserve better. Check out your local shelter or rescue organization. I guarantee you, there will be a senior dog waiting for a forever home.

*If you're a cat person, I donate book royalty sales during July (my birthday month) to Safe Haven for Cats. They work very hard to find homes for homeless kitties.

Tangled Tuesday - National Novel Writing Month #NaNoWriMo

Committed to writing 50,000 words in the 30 days of November?
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun approach to doing just that.

On November 1, participants can work towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30.
NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel.

Many of my author friends are participating and what a great way to kick a novel into high-gear.
I thought I'd post a collection of photos to inspire anyone looking for photo prompts.
A picture is worth 1000 words, right?
All of the photos are mine (except for the old car, skull and apples, and the shoes, which are Creative Commons) and you are welcome to use them on Twitter.  Good luck!

May you be inspired to write The Next Great Novel...

Blog Tour & Guest Author - The Wraith of Carter’s Mill : The Curse of the Carter Women by C. Evenfall #paranormal #suspense

Writing for Fulfilment
by C. Evenfall

I always wanted to be a writer. As a matter of fact, I do not remember a time when it was not dream of mine. As important as the goal was however, I do not think I ever considered how much or little money I could make doing it.

For me, writing was just something I felt compelled to do, but as I began to explore the publishing industry and the newer version, self-publishing, I came to see that a lot of writers are just entrepreneurs looking for the next best “work from home” opportunity. I clawed viciously at the pile, digging frantically, looking for the artists. . .the people who write “just because.” I was relieved to find that they are still out there; they just might not be getting the bulk of the attention.

I had to ask myself which mattered most, publishing a book that I could be proud of, that I thought other people would enjoy or mass producing mediocre fiction for the fast buck. The choice was easy for me. Before I pursued any publishing options, I decided that what mattered most to me was the quality of the work. Better to have a small following than to have a bucket full of disappointed readers.

The catch 22 is that in order to find those folks who will enjoy your book, there has to be some amount of marketing and that requires money. So. . . if you invest in something, you are hoping to get a return, or at the very least break even. Before I knew it, I was in the same situation every other debuting author finds him or herself, making business decisions about marketing my book. What a drag?

The main goal for me was simply writing good books, so marketing them is a struggle for me. I work very hard to create a balance between creativity and marketability when I am writing, but I think the most important thing I can do is continue to write just for the fun of it.

Book Description:

The Wraith of Carter’s Mill chronicles five generations of women from the turn of the century to present day. It depicts in startling detail the result of an old curse and the wraith that haunts the family. Sensitives, The Guardians and The Forgotten tell the tale while the fourth shocking segment, Carter’s Mill provides the back-story. It reveals the shameful truth behind a century of sorrow and the curse of revenge that plagues the Carter women.

Zeb, the Carter family patriarch, is a hard, callous man. He runs his thriving sawmill, farm and family with an iron fist. When he commits an incredible act of cruelty, he ignorantly brings a terrible curse down upon all his kin. Martha Thompsons’ prophecy proves true as the family falls into ruin, and the women pay the price.

Almost a century after Zeb’s death, a Carter daughter is born with notable yet uncanny gifts. It will be up to Shyanne to unearth a long buried family secret and set an old wrong back to rights. Will she find a way to lift the curse and banish the accursed wraith that haunts her? If she fails, she risks losing her own little girl to the dark entity forever.

A small North Carolina community, where everyone knows everyone sets the perfect stage for this suspenseful drama. Rich in history and southern culture, The Wraith of Carter’s Mill harkens back to a time when life was simpler, and superstition was part of everyday living.

About the Author:

C. Evenfall grew up on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. In many ways, her community was isolated from the outside world, and time simply stood still. The old ways of “doing things” surrounded her, and she was both fascinated by the rich history and influenced by it.

As with any such place, the area was rich with ghost lore and old tales of “people done wrong.”

C. Evenfall, a child seen and not heard, hovered as close as she dared, listening to the old stories when the adults got together talking about old times. She also spent many nights with the sheet pulled over her head in childish fright.

A paranormal encounter when she was just six years old, experienced by two other people at the same time, convinced her that ghosts really did exist. C. Evenfall has been seeking answers ever since. Her fascination with the unexplainable, coupled with her love of history and southern culture and the role women play in both, have inspired her to write The Wraith of Carter’s Mill, a series of novellas. Each inspired by tales from her childhood and the family members who passed them down.

Life has taken her many places, but today, C. Evenfall resides with her husband in the same fishing village where she grew up. Together they enjoy hiking, camping, gardening and the outdoors in general. She forgives his skeptics’ dismissal of things that go bump in the night and loves him dearly in spite of it. They complement one another perfectly.

Thoughtful Thursday-All Hallows Read and My Picks

This is a brilliant idea--Neil Gaiman is awesome for headlining it. (Well, Neil is awesome just because he's Neil.) You probably couldn't get away with handing out books for Halloween instead of candy but...how about starting with friends and family? I think it's time for a new Halloween tradition around my house.

My picks for gifting:

4-8 year old range: The Witch Next Door by Norman Bridwell
7-10 year old range: Mr. Katz is a Zombie by Margaret Lesh
11-15 year old range (and beyond): The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
Adults (and since the shops insist on lumping Halloween and Christmas together): Krampus: The Yule Lord by Brom

I'll offer up my own as well
For adults: Between and Struck by Clarissa Johal
